Members of the Abong Seminar panel
This Wednesday (28/02), the General Research Coordinator of the Internet and Social Network Studies Laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NetLab UFRJ), Débora Salles, participated in the Abong National Seminar, an event that is part of the National Meeting of the Abong Board of Directors.
The seminar on the topic of “CSOs and Popular Participation”, considered the role of Brazilian civil society organizations. During her speech, Débora Salles discussed the research paper developed by Netlab UFRJ, “Regional Media Ecology in the Legal Amazon”, which mapped and analyzed the problematic socio-environmental coverage of local media in the nine states of the Legal Amazon Zone.
Held at the Casa Cultural do Povo Brasileiro (MST), the debate featured two discussion pannels: “CSOs and popular participation: contributions to the radicalization of democracy” and “CSOs and social participation: learning, challenges and possibilities”. The event program also included the presentation of results from the Survey on Social Participation, carried out by Abong, and the launch of the Booklet “Our Knowledge: practices to transform the world”, an achievement of the “New Paradigms” project.
The event created a space for dialogue between civil society organizations, members of Abong, organizations, networks of social movements, and other segments interested in contributing to resistance and presenting alternatives for promoting democracy in the country.
